I tried stitching in the car on the way to Auckland Leeanne and discovered I could cope for short periods - thanks for the tip, more stitching time and a finished project. I am happy.

no quilting.................

I just HAD to clean & sort my studio before I started the next quilt, the dust bunnies have taken over!!
Anyhow I found this in my sorting.............

How cool is that? I will bring along to our next get together.
I guess there will be no surprises as to what I will be working on..............Beads!! More beads!!

The 70th birthday quilt top is complete!! I am so happy to finally have all the blocks together. Thank you Kerryn for convincing me I should go with the flying geese sashing. Even though there was some cursing as I pieced the 200 flying geese required, plus the 25 corner stones, the outcome is much nicer than if I had just done plain corner stones.

Now it is our master quilters turn to add her magic touch. I am really looking forward to seeing what Leeanne comes up with. I know she will make the quilt 'sing'

Take care, Barb

The find of today

I found a gollie pattern to add to our selection in a small town on our travels  yestersay. There were only about 6 shops in the town and one shop had knitting, sewing, embroidery and patchwork supplies. Everything was in boxes and on the floor, shelving was an unheard of concept I think. I found the pattern in the botton of a box. By the look of it the pattern may have been in the box for several years! There was also some very interesting material on display. The bolts were all wrapped in plastic and when I said I would like to make a purchase the shop owner who was well into her 80s suggested that unwrapping the plastic and measuring out the material was really in the too hard basket! Needless to say I walked out of the shop empty handed except for my $3 pattern which by the way has the material to make the appliqué gollie included!

Sorry there is no photo. I managed to work out how to take a photo with my iPad but downsizing it was beyond me. I will have to show you on my return.

For sister B

A great get together tonight but missed our chief executive who always keeps us focused and on track.  A decision was made, well as good as a decision as we can all make together, to start a golly quilt ... but not until next year!! - a decision that kind of made sense as A will be overseas next month and then D is going off to the South Island for a month or two.

A good selection of ideas to start with!!

Isn't she cute?!
A Lynn Hyland pattern from a quilt magazine.
How is everyone else getting on with inspiration for your Golly quilts?
See you all next week!

A big thank you to my friends

A  big thank you to all the special friends I have met in the past 2 years through my love of sewing. Everytime I look at my new cushions made with the lovely material you gave me for my birthday I will remember fun times with special women.

The last of my small projects completed!! Now there are 4 quilt tops waiting to be put together on my return.

All packed ready to head off on our adventure over in south West Australia. It is now a matter of waiting for the spray contractor and the fertiliser spreader, both of whom are chasing each other round the orchard at present, to complete their tasks. We are very lucky that at last we have a nice fine day and the orchard floor has dried out enough for heavy vehicles.

Happy sewing, I look forward to catching up with you all on my return

world's biggest toilet bag?

The toilet bag is all finished Di - are you sure you made the big size!! This is huge, Brian wants to know why I think I need one so big. I sure will need a big suitcase to fit it in. I have suggested I take a near empty case so I can bring lots of goodies back home!!

Hope you all having a great week, cheers sample sister B

Gollies finished!!!

Just kidding!.........

Is this the same pattern as yours Kerryn?

Sample Sister " L "

I've been thinking....

As soon as I saw this picture I knew what I wanted to do for my version of the Gollies quilt idea.
Yes a row-by-row!!
AS I see things I like I can do a row of them, rather than making a whole quilt of each.
(Unfortunately there are no instructions for this, only the photo).
What do you think?!

Yay!

Awesome up and Running!!

hello!

I finished the wee pencil case I was working on last month. I look forward to our next meeting.

Bye for now,

Sample Sister "L".............:-)

Lets get started!

Here it is, a blog for a group of friends who like to sew, patchwork and quilt. We call ourselves the Sample Sisters. Some of the sisters are new to this blog thing so I think that as well as having fun with our stitching and our chatting, we can have fun with the blogging. I invite the Sample Sisters, and you all know who you are, to have a go at writing a first post...keep it simple and we can discuss technicalities when we meet :-).
(Give me a call or flick me an email if you need help to get started !)
Happy stitching!!
Raewyn
